PROJECT
THAT'S MRS. STUART
This 1920 Craftsman bungalow in Denver, Colorado, truly tested our team. Renovating old homes is never for the faint of heart, and this one was a perfect example of that. Our clients brought us in to transform the attic into a primary suite, but little did we know, Mrs. Stuart had a different vision in mind.
The project took an unexpected turn when our clients had to move out in the middle of winter, and what was meant to be an attic addition quickly turned into a full-house renovation. Denver’s temperatures dropped so low that pipes froze and burst, leaving us with a flooded house—definitely not the call you want to make to your clients. But with a solid team surrounding us, we were able to quickly pivot and take on the unexpected challenge. And rise to it, we did.
The design direction was a blend of the home’s "Art Deco" roots mixed with industrial elements. We custom-designed stairs leading up to the new primary suite, incorporating a brick wall behind them to evoke the feel of old Denver homes. As we ascended the stairs into the primary suite, one of our favorite design moments emerged in the bathroom. The vintage city charm shines through with a reverse black-and-white floral tile, juxtaposed with a sleek black quartz vanity set atop aged wooden legs and white stone tile with brick in the shower. It’s definitely one of our favorite bathrooms to date!
